happy leap year day

it was an almost perfect weekend
weather wise
it was perfect 50% of the time
that is good for NYC in the winter

yes
its still winter
even tho
 i hesitate writing this
its not been a true winter
 a true winter here
 is
 usually
 extremely cold
 with
 intermittent
 snowy days

we dont get a real true spring

march
approaching rapidly
 can be pretty wintery

april
 is usually rainy
 with
at least one week of insanely warm weather
everyone acts as if that wasn't a yearly thing

may
brings
true warm days
 and
then
 its
 summer

nyc really should
 embrace
a 3 season year
 and
 be done with it

i know i am

oh
happy leap day!

i love windows

i love windows
i once considered them at the top of my obsession to photograph list
i got it under control
i was expanding my horizons
then
i went to
barcelona

and

the windows

the shutters

the balconies

i fell off the wagon

hiding in plain sight

hidden in a brick 'box'
lots of cell 'tower' thingies
but
its still
a water tower!

what a weekend

i took friday off
to go to the doctor
 with toonman

 he'd caught my cold
for him it was a lot worse
than
a sore throat stuffed nose and a cough

his doctor wasn't in
so we saw another doctor
she was terrific
diagnosed his shortness of breath as congestion
likely bronchitis
but
decided to do an ekg
 just because

 well first one is run
they think there's a problem with the machine
so they do it again
 umm
 lets switch machines
 ok
 maybe its the tech

 finally
 the doctor comes back
 she says
she can't find a previous ekg to compare

when are you seeing your cardiologist
she asks

 we shrug
 his practice
which was part of the same group
she's a part of
 is now
 over
across
town
 associated with another hospital
we  hadn't set up an appt
because
toonman had seen him in october

well
 she said
we have a cardio unit down the hall
lets see if they can see you
just to make sure ....

 so
we go down the hall
 longer story somewhat shorter
the new cardiologist finds a year old ekg
 which
 is
identical
 to
 the
they've just run

 she explains
 because he's had heart surgery
 and
 because he's very thin
the right side of his heart has thickened
 and
on the ekg
there are strange jagged lines
which
 to a non cardiologist
could be seen as signs of a heart attack
but
for
toonman
 its
 normal

 so it turns out
the bronchitis is just bronchitis
his heart is fine

nevertheless
it was a pretty crazy day

 we got home
 he took a nap
  i did errands
including
 hunting down the antibiotic
he needed

seems
the first doctor's assistant
 called
 into
the
wrong
pharmacy

 oy and vey

saturday
 i beautified
i had the best massage

sunday
i met my friend blondie for lunch

all in all
a weekend that left me sort of like this

oh look

this is not your normal dog photo saturday
 but
i couldnt resist

above the entrance to sagrada familia
is this

to the left is this

and
to the right

let look a bit closer

maybe we can get closer still

is that little dog not adorable

sagrada famìlia

this amazing cathedral has been under construction for 500 years

the front is clearly showing its age

the side

the interior

the grand winding staircases

the soaring vaulted ceilings

the light through the stained glass windows

areas of the interior are undergoing restoration

the center piece is this christ figure

the rear sculptures are done in different style

and
 then
 there's my take
 on
 gaudi's masterpiece
reflected in the windows of a building
just to the left of the cathedral

a cat tale

what's wrong?
well
i ruptured an anal gland
 it was pretty messy
the nice dr mohr at city vet
 gave me
a bath
 two shots
one for pain and one for the infection

i have to wear this stupid cone til monday

 when i eat
i get to wear it like a super hero cape
 and
i get to eat fancy feast
 cause
they want me to eat so i get better fast

i am milking the for all its worth

i am going to do as much rubbing of my face as i can

she lets me wear it like a cape while i eat

she took the video
 cause
 i am so cute

could be, might be

we thought it was
 a
 water tower

spotted
as we stood on
passeig de gràcia

a lot like fifth or madison avenue
it lined with high end shops
beautiful old buildings
lots of motorcycles
and
of course
tourists
like us

street art

although
 barcelona
 is by far
the cleanest city
 i have ever been in
seriously
no trash or dog poop anywhere
 there is
an abundance
 of
 graffiti or street art

here's a random sampling

from
wheat paste/stencils

store front shutters

spray paint

re-purposed

in the plazas

on the buildings

atop the buildings

on the street

to statements

lets face it
who can resist bill murray

park güell

after our morning
 visit
 to
oreo catalan
 last friday
 we headed back
 to
the
 portal de l'angel
where we hopped a bus
to
another
 gaudi
creation
located atop carmel hill
its a twisty winding bus route to the top
an even more twisty winding walk down

there are lots of people
both natives and tourists

the mosaic benches are a big attraction

artisans maintain the integrity of the mosaic benches

on an almost clear day
you can see the cranes at work
on another gaudi masterpiece
the exquisite cathedral
sagrada familia
