last dog of 2016

i spotted this guy back in early december
the one snowy day we had
he was licking his paw

he's licking the salt off his paws

a sight like that really bugs me

if the dog's owner been present
 i would have said something

stores and residences
salt the sidewalks
to
 keep ice from forming

when the snow begins to melt
from rising temps
ice forms as soon as the temps drop

dangerous for pedestrians
worse for animals

grrrrrrr

wishing
 you all
an ice free new year's eve
see you in 2017!

watch out!

it looks like 2016 is in a rush to leave the building
(how about that for mixing metaphors!)
i for one wont be holding it back

the cold i came down with before christmas
brought along a cough that shook my back into spasms
a vacation week meant to be spent doing all sorts of things
turned into a week spent healing
kept me
from sitting
from getting out and taking new photos
from social media'ing
from purging the cupboards and closets

thank goodness for bloggers post ahead
thank goodness for blog friends
for comments left
even tho i could sit long enough to reply
thanks!

where did it go?

my friend and travel pal
took this shot
in her hometown of
cincinnati

its the perfect way
 to end the
 2016 parade of water towers
if anyone finds the missing tank
let me know!

edited to add:
the sinus 'tickle'
 accompanying
 the cold
i came down with
 this past weekend
caused
some
majorly serious coughing
resulting
 in
middle back spasms

i sit here
briefly
very briefly
to let you know
i appreciate all the comments
you've been leaving
but
alas
i just cant sit long enough to reply

hopefully
(to borrow from my friend Suldog)
back soon with more better stuff

say cheese

having been indoors for several days now
coping with a head cold
coughing that never ends
feeling lazy
uninspired
but
needing a photo
i went scrolling back
 through
the photos app
 i think
emphasis
 on
think
 i havent shared yet

i recently re-posted a photo
i used a mere few weeks ago
thinking i had been saving it
 clearly not

anyway
i got to this photo
 i stopped and smiled

 it made me think
of
those group photos
the ones where
everyone
squeezes in
stands real close
tight
shoulder to shoulder
to be sure to be in the frame

say cheese!

achooo

well i am off this week
the office is closed
yea!

of course
i came down with a cold

friday morning
i had this sort of tickle in my throat
saturday
i felt like crap
sunday
i gave in and took some cold meds
 so
i could go to our friends
annual christmas day dinner
except
i had no appetite
really sad when the food is so good
and
i had to keep saying
please
dont hug
 or
kiss me
i am contagious

i hope everyone had a lovely christmas or hanukkah

twinkle twinkle

holiday star
up above the street
so high
like a diamond
 in the sky

at the intersection
 of
fifth avenue and 57th street
every year
since 1984
baccarat crystal snowflake/star
is hung
shining
light and joy on all who visit

water towers

i was saving this photo tho i no longer remember why
i took it in mid november
that's the ansonia there on the left

what a mess

one morning last week
i got up at my usual ungodly early hour of 5
of course i had been awake since 4
jack feels
 i need
at least an hour of
crying whining jumping on off the bed
to wake

i dont

my routine in the morning is
 get up, out of bed
walk into the living room
turn on the lights
fend off the cats
head into the bathroom
shower
then
i feed them

well
 the morning
i am going to tell you about
i deviated
i walked into the living room
spied a zappos box on top of the temporarily
(for the last 10+ years)
placed chest of drawers

oh wow my slippers got here after i went to bed last night
i thought

i stepped closer
right
into
a puddle of
honestly
i thought one of the cats had an accident
got some paper towels
container of clorox wipes

as
i began to wipe up the wet
something
hit me on the head

splat

i looked up

splat

oh my gawd
the ceiling is leaking

wake toonman
put lots of towels on the floor
call our neighbor/landlord
he turns off the water to the toilet in their guest bathroom

dramatic beginning to a long day
sadly repeated the next morning
because
 'someone'
turned the water back on
 before the plumber/handyman came

that evening
 day two of the leak
the aforesaid handyman and his assistant arrived
they cut a hole in the ceiling
 to see
 what
where
the leak was

that being ascertained
they sealed a crack in a connector pipe

alls well

well not all

friday morning
through
 the temporarily closed hole
water
began
dripping
again

the handymen returned
re-opened the ceiling
re-checked the pipe
flushed the toilet
ran the water in the sink

voila

turns out
something between the toilet and the pipes was 'off'

its now fixed/replaced

the hole in the ceiling
the furniture all moved to one side of the living room
remain

sometime late this week it will be closed
hopefully for good

here's a video i hope it plays

caught my eye

i really did a double take
the stickers
the colors
the angles
so
very
appealing
to
my eye

i love a parade

yesterday
i was sitting at my desk
turned
 to get something
spotted
those clouds
grabbed
the iphone
wished
i had
my big camera
 my long lens

nevertheless
had to take this shot
had to share it

sunrise and a cloud parade
perfect
beginning
 to
 a
thursday

well worth looking at again this friday morning

weekend blather

i really do love the dark mornings
i certainly will miss the
twinkle lights
trees
santa
when the tree seller is gone

it was a cold lazy weekend

friday
i took off early
harry had an appointment with a specialist vet
skin issues
he'd had since august
will now
hopefully
improve

harry is fiv+
that means
his immune system doesnt work
 simple problems become big ones
this skin thing
will not go away
but
the treatment wont be worse than the actual problem

most importantly
he's happy
playing with toys
eating well
interacting with his 'siblings'
being brushed, loved and snuggled

saturday
 was
beautification day
boy did i need it

interesting only to me
i saw
 but
one small group
of
 santacon-ers

toonman
made
a bowl of popcorn to nosh
while we watched
the girl on the train

i hadnt read the book
so i dont know
if other than moving the setting
to westchester from london
there were other changes

it was a good movie
well written/acted

mozart in the jungle is back on amazon prime
we watched two episodes of that

the trouble
 in my opinion
with
ten 1/2 hour episodes a season?
you can gobble them up in one weekend
(we didnt)
then there's none left

sunday
much much colder
hibernating with an e-book
toonman is tuned into football

how was your weekend?

winter is coming

here in nyc
its
gotten
 much
 colder

tho we havent had
snow
yet
some places
north
 of
here
 have

but
since 'they' are saying
 its likely
we might have some this weekend
i thought this photo from a few years back
would be perfect

twinkle, sparkle, glow!

 i promised
more
 of
the holiday decorations
around town

i guess
 i need to say
 around town
 means
 either
 down near the office

the entryway to 1WTC is covered in white christmas tree 'decals'

the side streets off west broadway and greenwich street have stars hanging from the lampposts

the lobby of 7WTC has blue lights, trees covered in tiny bulbs and menorahs

OR

uptown
within
walking/shopping distance
of
my apartment

the trees along the sidewalk on west 65 street sparkle

time warner center has hung its tradition shining stars which glow in changing colors

the windows of apthorp pharmacy are decorated with fun blocks and little figurines

dog walker

had to
 dig down
 into
 my photo library
all the way
 to
 an unseasonably warm
december 2015
for this photo

they're back!

every year
immedately after
thanksgiving
the christmas tree sellers
set up on corners
throughout the city

this year
our corner got a brand new santa

reflections of the season - welcome to december

once thanksgiving is digested
nyc begins to put on its holiday

tree sellers set up shop

windows get decorated

awnings get shiny ornaments

even the streets get a new 'carpet'

i took photos over the last week
that fit
those captions

i changed my mind
about this post

this is my favorite

i'll share the others another time

morning light

i usually
face
 west
for my morning shot
under the canopy
pulling the focus much closer
BUT
the other morning
the sky
the light
further off
were too hard to resist
so pink
yet
so gold

looking .....

it was a long weekend
 lots of
food
leftovers
football
beautifying
cyber shopping

and you?

crossing madison avenue

a few weekends ago
i walked up madison avenue
after a dentist appointment

it was one of those
only in new york moments
when
 the streets are almost deserted

 i am not sure
 if these people
were together or simply paired
because
they were in my viewfinder at the same time

but
there they are
both of them
walking the dog
walking the baby

a slice of life image

oh yeah
that snowflake?
part of the neighborhoods holiday decor

happy thanksgiving

if you are celebrating
i wish you
the enjoyment of the macy's thanksgiving day parade
the pleasure of watching miracle on 34th street
(for the umpteenth time)
the fun of the national dog show
and
of course
football
football
football

oh yeah
eat drink be merry
no politics!

wintery skies

this past weekend
began with very mild temperatures
ended with snow in some of upstate new york

monday morning
the winds howled
the skies threatened

winter is coming

colors of autumn

seasonally vibrant sky
serves as background
for
the changing (dying) leaves
 of
the trees
in
riverside park

took it while waiting for the M5 on saturday
bussed it to midtown
 for
a morning appointment with my dentist
he's terrific
he has saturday hours once a month

extreme security
policemen/women in clusters
along fifth avenue
between 58th street and 56th street
forming a barrier to 'his' tower

sawhorses blockading fifth avenue
narrowing it to one traffic lane
ugh

after the dentist
 i walked uptown
 on
 madison avenue
for a bit
before
heading crosstown
back to the 'hood
to beautify

i had hoped to meet a friend
for a walk in central park
but
an aprés dental work head/jaw ache
sent me home
 to relax
take tylenol
 watch a movie with toonman

x-men: apocolypse
was a fun escape

i love cheesy action movies

last weekend
we watched
 star trek - beyond

what did you do?
